Kim Jon Un reminded us this week that some of the hallowed traditions of evil dictation are still alive and well. In front of all of his friends, he had his uncle and mentor dragged off. Two days later the official North Korean news agency announced he and several of his friends and co-workers had been executed.
The co-workers were killed by artillery shells, and there is controversy about how the uncle himself met his end. One report from a Chinese newspaper, and repeated by the Singapore Straits times and Fox News, said he was literally fed to the dogs.
At Sartle we deplore this sort of behavior and firmly believe that evil dictating always reflects poorly on the dictator. However, there was a time when evil dictators rode horses, personally led their men into battle while striking heroic poses, and wore capes. This led to awesome paintings such as Napoleon Crossing the Alps by Jacques-Louis David.
