Kaila is a recent graduate of Smith College, where she majored in art history, and completed her thesis focusing on the perception of fashionable women in late eighteenth-century English popular prints. Her overall interests lie in the study of early American material culture, particularly the history of fashion and dress and its associated visual and material culture. She has held internships at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, History San Jose, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, and Historic Deerfield. She’s still amazed that they let her touch the art. Hobbies include historical costuming, binging costume dramas, and documenting her cats’ cutest moments. What’s the best Halloween costume you’ve ever had?

I was an Alophonse Mucha painting once, that was pretty cool.

What’s the weirdest job you ever had?

I spent a summer in a Victorian cottage sanding and repainting mannequins.

If you could pull off a heist, what would you steal?

I would definitely steal some fabulous things from the Met’s Costume Institute. But not to wear, because best practices.
