I am an historian of Renaissance humanism, and I teach at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. I teach and write about Renaissance culture, art, and politics. I am also the founding editor of Humanities Watch, a website devoted to the role of the humanities in contemporary society.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I enjoy tai chi and internal martial arts, photography, writing, and traveling.

If you could have your portrait made by any artist, whom would you choose, and why?

Rembrandt, for his acute psychological eye.
