"The Creation of Adam" by Michelangelo depicts God reaching down to meet Adam's outstretched hand. I appreciate the concept of this painting; I love the idea of God touching humanity. I also enjoy Michelangelo's use of composition as the painting feels very balanced. However, there are some details that I found to be quite interesting upon further inspection of the piece. For one, why is God clothed, but no one else in the painting is? Is this to separate God from humans and to display his grandiose dignity? Second, who are all the people surrounding God, that seem to be supporting his weight? Are they angels?
I really like this painting because you are able to see the true love God has for each and every one of us in it. As you look at the painting you can see how God, the man in white clothing, is holding on to all of his children but also continues to reach for Adam to save him. You can see a facial expression in Adams's face of just calmness or relaxation where as God seems like he is urging to reach for him and connect. I believe the idea that the man in white cloth is floating in mid-air shows that it is also God because he has unthinkable power compared to us humans who can not fly which is represented by Adam relaxing on the Earth. This painting reminds me that God will do whatever he can do to reach us and connect with us here on Earth.
I like this painting because I have seen it in person.
FIVR STARS ! THANKS
In this work, the painter's praise for people is reflected, as well as his confidence in human humanism.
