Constantin Brâncusi makes a penis fit for a princess.
Brancusi created this work which seems to resemble a rather large bronze phallus as a symbol of Princess Marie Bonaparte's sexuality.
It was also a commentary on society's conservative attitude towards masturbation and sexual freedom. At the time, Freud had declared that the only true sexual satisfaction came from vaginal orgasm created by a penis. Rude, Freud, so rude.
Princess Bonaparte an author, psychoanalyst, and distant relative of Napoleon was obsessed with her lack of sexual fulfillment. She underwent two operations to move her clitoris closer to her vagina. Nothing worked. Despite all that, she had no hard feelings towards Freud. She saved his life by paying a ransom to the Nazis so he could leave the country.
She had affairs with one of Freud's disciples, as well as the French Prime Minister.
When Brancusi exhibited the sculpture at the Salon des Independents in 1920, police were summoned to remove it. Brancusi's friends, the artist Fernand Leger and poet Blaise Cendrars, brought it back to the show. Brancusi was so upset, however, that he refused to exhibit in Paris for the rest of his life.

Princess X is a sculpture by the artist Constantin Brâncuși depicting the Princess Marie Bonaparte, a psychoanalyst in her own right and great supporter of Freud. An initial version in marble is now in the Sheldon Memorial Art Galleries at the University of Nebraska, whilst two versions as a polished bronze atop a limestone block stands
61.7 cm (2 ft 1⁄4 in) tall (both created between 1915 and 1916) are now in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Musée national d'Art moderne in Paris.
The work was originally part of a "notorious scandal" when the Salon des Indépendants removed Princess X from display for its apparent obscene content, after some objected to the sculpture's phallic resemblance. Brâncuși was reportedly shocked and declared the incident a misunderstanding; he had created Princess X to evoke feminine desire and vanity.
