More about Untitled (White Star)

If this is called White Star then why is it grey?
We don’t know the answer to that question but we do know that this star is giving us early 2000’s GAP graphic t-shirt flashbacks and we aren’t mad about it. It takes us back to the days of low-rise pocketless jeans that needed a constant lifting via finger through the back belt loop, Von Dutch hats, and Juicy Couture velour tracksuits. And as this was made approximately 45 years before any of that was cool, we can count Jo Baer as one of the main millennial influencers. A bit of a stretch? Yes. Accurate? Probably not.
Other things this grey star called White Star reminds us of is the Converse All Star logo, S. Pellegrino, some sort of wartime propaganda I guess, Heineken, Patrick Star and the Dallas Cowboys. Nothing you would ever actually find in space though. Isn’t it funny how unspace-like human-accepted notations for stars actually are? Also hearts.
You probably have guessed this by now but Jo Baer was considered a Minimalist artist. Though she at some point could have been an abstract artist, she now is very decidedly not an abstract artist. We know this because of the article she wrote titled, "I am no longer an Abstract Artist." Way to be straightforward, Jo. If only every artist could define themselves in such blatant terms, art critics around the world would sleep better at night knowing there were no mistakes in their writing.
