It’s been a few years since the last Harry Potter movie and/or book were released but The Boy Who Lived still remains on the minds of muggles and wizards alike. With 2016 set to bring us a feature film, West End play, AND the West Coast construction of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter it’s fair to say that Harry still has the public under his spell. July 31st is our favorite hex-casting hero’s birthday so to give back to the boy who just keeps giving and living, I’ve sifted through page after page… after page of fan art.
While most of what I discovered were well rendered colored pencil drawings of characters snogging (a lot of people really want Harry and Malfoy to hook up), I did manage to find a few art history inspired images to honor our totally awesome hero on his 35th birthday.
I’m not sure that donning new outfits demonstrates McGonagall and Snape’s best bought of transfiguration, but this American Gothic by Grant Wood inspired work is certainly a good demonstration of the magic of Photoshop.
Most art history nerds probably caught the resemblance between Voldemort and The Scream by Edvard Munch long ago, but as a self-identified Hufflepuff it had to be drawn out for me.

It’s only appropriate that Harry Potter, the King of pop culture be Pop-Arted ala Andy Warhol. BTW, Warhol was definitely a wizard, how the hell would he have convinced people to spend cash money on a print of soup?
Maybe I’m reaching a bit with this one, but this fan portrait of David Hockney specified that he was donning a “Harry Potter tie.” Now we know that Hockney was a Gryffindor.
Does anyone else find it creepy that in this The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli replica Ginny Weasley is depicted as Venus… and that her brother Ron is hella creeping on her? Calm down kid, Hermione is right there, point that broom somewhere else.

Apparently this artist thought that Harry couldn’t catch a snitch if it were right in front of his face. Rude. We know that our birthday boy may sometimes need to swallow his snitches to win the game, but his seeking skills are as surreal as the The Son of Man by René Magritte.
