Unlike most artists, George Rickey’s first love was mechanics and engineering.
His geometric fascination began with an intense interest in window latches as a young child. Maybe Rickey's obsession with latches helped him sneak out of the house without getting caught.
He applied his skills to aircraft and gunnery systems when drafted in WWII.
After the war, he combined his love of moving parts and talent for design and became famous for his kinetic sculptures- big metal structures with parts that move in the wind.
