Big Alma has her sugar daddy buy her Rodin's The Thinker.

The first plaster version was made in 1880 by Rodin with subsequent bronze casts made in 1904 by Henri Lebosse and Alexis Rudier.

Donated by San Francisco socialite Alma de Bretteville Spreckels. She worked as a nude model to pay for art school and successfully sued a former lover for taking her virginity.

Alma met her husband Adolph Spreckels while posing for Robert Aitken’s Dewey Monument, which can be seen at Union Square in San Francisco. She affectionately called the sugar magnet her 'sugar daddy', probably coining the modern definition of the term since he paid for her Rodin collection and building the Legion of Honor.

Author Danielle Steel currently resides in the Spreckels’ San Francisco mansion.

On Rodin's 172nd birthday, Google used The Thinker for their doodle.
